ETC Human health and the environment (ETC HE)

The ETC Human Health and the Environment (ETC HE) is a European consortium of 10 organisations working in partnership with the European Environment Agency (EEA) under a framework partnership agreement for the period 2022-2026. The ETC HE is lead jointly, in close cooperation with the ETC HE Partners, by the Norwegian Institute for Air Research (NILU) as Coordinator and the German Environment Agency (UBA) as Scientific Co-Coordinator.

The ETC HE supports the EEA with providing expertise and information in the following thematic areas:
- Better understanding of environmental and climate pressures on health
- Benefits to human well-being delivered by healthy environments
- Policy implementation in the fields of air quality, air pollutant emissions, chemicals, environmental noise, industrial releases (e.g. European Pollutant and Transfer Register, Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive) water quality, soil contamination
- Exploring links between environment/climate pressures and social inequalities, socio-economic dimensions
The work of the ETC HE will support the implementation of key EU policies under the European Green Deal and the 8th Environment Action Programme.
The main tasks of ETC HE include supporting the EEA in:
- (Data) reporting and reviews
- Undertaking integrated and thematic assessments of the state of the environment and its impact on human health
- Monitoring policy effectiveness, in particular monitoring and assessing the EU Zero Pollution Ambition and the implementation of the 8th EU Environment Action Programme
- Preparation, updating and development of indicators
- Capacity-building, Eionet and cross-ETC collaboration.
